DAS can be deployed internally within building with poor reception or externally through outside resources and venues. Cellular signals are useful to run applications, conduct phone calls, teleconferencing, send emails, accessing the internet and streaming data. Without it reliable service, we run the risk of losing business and diminishing our professional integrity and reliability. In-building wireless-LAN (Wi-Fi based) will continue to evolve and flourish in the enterprise market and grow faster than the base market. In-building wireless-cellular (Wi-Fi based) will continue to take market share from both DAS and Small Cell, and will eventually dominate wireless access in the enterprise market. Active DAS vs Passive DAS Active DAS is the most powerful cellular boosting solution since the signal source comes directly from carrier networks. Signals are then converted from an analog radio frequency to a digital signal to maintain signal strength regardless of cable run and coverage area. Getting signal directly from the carrier base station resembles something like having a mini-cell tower inside the building. Passive DAS is the inexpensive option for cellular coverage. Spot coverage for buildings up to 500,000 sq ft should consider a passive solution. Passive DAS is dependent on having strong outside signal because their signal source comes from amplifying cellular signal to and from the carrier cell towers. Passive DAS (also known as bi-directional amplifiers or cell phone signal boosters) are highly dependent on having a decent outside signal from the cell tower to work. Generally, this is ok for most cases in urban areas. However, rural areas will need stronger amplifiers & antennas to achieve any significant boost.
